Coming into vet gate – you do not have to be mounted
Collect time card from timekeeper at vet gate entrance/exit
Time you cross line noted
You have a maximum 20 minutes to present to vet (30 minutes on some longer ERs)– riding time still counting, so crew horse to present within parameters as quickly as possible. Leave everything else to the Hold period.
Present timecard to vet steward
Presentation time noted
If pulse over 64 but horse is not lame: you get a second chance (up to the 20/30 minute maximum from arrival time) -go away & crew horse again
Present timecard to vet steward again
2nd Presentation time noted
Once you successfully vet :
Present time card to steward on way out of vet area
‘Time you may leave vet gate’ noted
This is includes the hold time-advised on the day
Hold period starts from when you successfully present to vet steward
Riding time stops when you successfully present to vet steward & starts again at the ‘Time you may leave the vet gate’
When you are ready to go: Hand timecard to timekeeper at vet gate entrance/exit (who keeps it)
You will be told when you may leave the vet gate
Remember:
You do not have to be mounted to enter the vet gate
Always collect your timecard from the timekeeper
Don’t lose your card!
Hand it to vet steward on the way in & out of the vet area
Check the timings are correct and ensure you know the time by THEIR clock
Keep an eye on the time you may leave the vet gate & be ready in plenty of time to go
You can’t leave earlier than the time on your card – the timekeeper will tell you when you may go
You may leave later than the time on the card- but you are losing riding time
Your riding time stops at your successful presentation to the vet steward
It starts again at the ‘Time you may leave the vet gate’
